A mishra raga combining Khamaj with elements of Tilak Kamod and Jhinjhoti, Manj Khamaj is a favourite vehicle for thumri and tarana. Its complex yet singable contour allows extensive ornamental play, especially the 'M G M P D' phrase that distinguishes it from plain Khamaj.
